What You’ll Do
It’s not enough to just appreciate art. Betty Rosen Ziff from MOSAIC ALCHEMY wants her community to become active participants in their own creative stories. Lasting two hours, this mobile lecture and workshop starts with an overview of the history, techniques, and intentions behind an emerging artist’s mosaic or one of LA’s historic local mosaics. From there, Betty takes everyone either to her studio or to an on-site pop-up studio to contribute to a mosaic in progress.
Intro to Mosaic
After a lecture at a local mosaic site, the group travels to Betty Rosen Ziff’s personal studio. Light refreshments will be served as the artist covers safety, technical skills, and mosaic materials.
Put Your Hands to Good Use
For one hour, you’ll work alongside Betty and the other guests to collaborate on a one-of-a-kind mosaic using recycled or upcycled materials. Once completed, the community-built project will be donated locally.
The Lesson Continues
You’ll leave with a hand-out of mosaic-making tips, local and online sources for materials, and other mosaics to visit. You can also bring an empty egg carton and take home various starter pieces.
