Cave Creek Golf Course

Arguably Phoenix's most popular municipal golf course, Cave Creek Golf Course is a championship caliber test that's both fun to play and environmentally friendly. The course, which began as a landfill reclamation project in 1983, is an excellent Jack Snyder design that measures 6,723 yards from the back tees. The course features wide fairways with a creek that runs through much of the layout. Centrally located in north Phoenix, the course does more than 60,000 rounds per year. Water comes into play on a few holes with lakes or ponds prominent on the par-3 13th, and par-4 14th holes, for example. There are doglegs of both directions, and the large greens are slightly raised with a good bit of undulation. The no. 1 handicap hole is the eighth, a par 4 that plays pretty much straight away, but is pretty lengthy at 434 yards. The finishing stretch, which begins with a par-5 and ends with a dogleg left par 4, includes the 203-yard par-3 17th, a scenic hole with a pond and large bunkers. While there are partial cart paths, Cave Creek is also a great walking course. In addition to the golf course, Cave Creek also offers a grass driving range, short-game area with practice bunker, and a practice putting green. Cave Creek also offers instruction. The clubhouse showcases a golf shop with a nice selection of apparel and accessories. And the clubhouse restaurant, which is open every day, serves a variety of sandwiches, snacks and beverages.
