Highlights

Once a private club and now a premium play open to the public, Thorntree Golf Club is a former PGA Tour event qualifying site and location for numerous amateur events. The club, which turned public in 2018, is certainly a great option for anyone looking for a challenging, beautiful and fun golf course to play. Built by the Richard Mai family, the club opened in 1983. The par-72 course plays 7,042 yards from the tips, and there are three other sets, starting as 5,215 yards. The course has plenty of elevation changes, with lots of uphill and downhill shots. There is also a lot of stellar holes on this layout, which boasts exceptional conditioning and terrific greens. One of the most difficult holes is the eighth, a dogleg right par-4 with a blind tee shot and water. That's followed by a long par 5 that's going to be at least a three-shotter for most players. The back nine is even more interesting. The 10th is a 667-yard par 5, the 14th is a 225-yard par 3 that plays downhill and considerably shorter than its yardage, and the finishing stretch is pretty good as it heads to Thorntree's mammoth clubhouse. Speaking of the clubhouse, there's an expansive golf shop with all the latest apparel, accessories and equipment. The club has excellent practice facilities that include a large range, short game area and putting green. And the clubhouse restaurant is as good as it gets with breakfast tacos, full lunch menu and plenty of great beverages.
