I love Planet Granite! The customer service is so friendly and accommodating. The facility is clean and as a beginner climber, I enjoyed the routes.

Staff compose new challenging trails & bouldering paths every 8-10 weeks in three gyms with up to 25,000 ft. of climbing surface

Planet Granite's flock of gravity-defying route setters decorate three area gyms with up to 25,000 square feet of new challenging top-rope and belay surfaces every 8-10 weeks. On each climbers' inaugural visit, belay class instructors endow scramblers with proper footwear, harnesses, and the basics of managing their partners' ropes for alpine marionette shows. Freshly certified belayers spend the remaining day ascending up to 60-foot top-rope routes and testing their solo strengths on an assortment of unclipped bouldering routes. After completing a mandatory belay lesson, returning climbers are free to conquer the crag across all three Planet Granite locations or avoid commuter traffic by climbing over buildings on their ways to work.

Planet Granite's Belmont location sprinkles climbers across up to 50 feet of top-rope routes and two bouldering areas, while the San Francisco location's 115 routes provide ample views of its second-story bouldering area. Planet Granite's largest location in Sunnyvale features 119 routes reaching up to 60 feet, 20 hand-carved cracks, and a life-size mural of George Washington climbing his own nose at Mount Rushmore.

Planet Granite's rates fluctuate throughout the week.

About Planet Granite

When the climbers of Planet Granite say that community anchors everything they do, they have a history of outreach to back it up. After Castle Rock State Park appeared on California’s closure list, Planet Granite’s team quickly organized a fundraiser to save the sanctuary. They pledged $10,000 in matching funds, put together an auction, scheduled guest speakers, and obtained support from companies like REI. In one night, they raised $20,725. This kind of response has been the norm for Planet Granite’s team since they opened in 1994.

One of the first climbing gyms in the country, Planet Granite has expanded to four locations in Belmont, San Francisco, and Sunnyvale and Portland. Each gym features a diverse array of climbing resources which led Popsugar to name the gym conglomerate one of the top five in San Francisco in 2011. At the San Francisco location, members scale 25,000 square feet of climbable surfaces that include top out bouldering areas to 50-foot walls.

In keeping with their commitment to community, the staff tailors instruction and climbing routes to every ability level. They also supervise each gyms’ fully equipped fitness centers, including yoga, which provides a peaceful counterbalance to the full-body workout of rock climbing.
