Häagen-Dazs was established by Reuben and Rose Mattus in the Bronx, New York, in 1961. Starting with only three flavors: vanilla, chocolate, and coffee, the company opened its first retail store in Brooklyn, New York, on November 15, 1976. Reuben’s daughter Doris opens the first Häagen-Dazs shop in Brooklyn Heights, NY, introducing Brooklynites to his delicious, velvety ice cream in every hand-pulled scoop. The company uses only the finest ingredients because the quality is key when it comes to customer satisfaction. In 2016 Häagen-Dazs began to eliminate GMO ingredients from its products.
