The most secretive body parts are muscles, which hide behind layers of skin and appear only occasionally to help lift cars off trapped kittens. Flex your biceps in the absence of a cat emergency with today's Groupon: for $29, you get one month of sunrise workouts from HollyWould Fitness (a $60 value). Sunrise workouts are Monday–Friday from 5:30 a.m.–6:30 a.m. in Veterans Plaza at Overton Park.
HollyWould Fitness provides an individualized fitness program geared toward busy, health-conscious Memphis residents looking to tone up, slim down, or strengthen their broken-escalator-conquering muscles. Founder and certified personal-fitness trainer Holly Guthrie is a member of the holistically focused Envision Memphis, and she brings years of fitness experience and low levels of cardio-induced ESP to each early-a.m. meeting, replacing the menacing stares of cereal-box mascots with her enthusiastic approach to total-body maintenance.
Tuesday and Thursday workouts focus on running, and Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays feature strength training and cardio. Arrive with a mat, dumbbells (5–8 lbs. for beginners, 10–15 lbs. for seasoned participants), and plenty of H2O, and Holly will take care of the rest, guiding you and your unsuspecting but ultimately grateful heart through a series of blood-pumping cardio workouts. Additionally, you’ll do some weight training in order to strengthen muscles including the bicep, tricep, and the little-understood, metal-bending thricep, which scientists suspect evolved after the invention of canned goods but before the invention of can openers.
HollyWould Fitness’s sunrise workouts are a reliably healthy way to start the day that doesn’t involve sprinkling chunks of protein and whey into your coffee. The group workouts facilitate friendly motivation and sweat-proof camaraderie, and watching the sunrise while working out is an experience more literally breathtaking than watching the sunrise while standing still.
This Groupon is for new customers only. Participants must sign a waiver.
Early birds get fit at HollyWould Fitness, thanks to trainer Holly's early morning boot-camp workouts. Held three times a week in Overton Park, her daily changing workouts earned her the No. 1 spot for Best Boot Camp of 2014 in Memphis Health & Fitness magazine. When she's not helping people reach their fitness goals before breakfast, she might be leading cardio-, weight-, or personal-training sessions.
