Aristotle was the first to write that what separates man from beast is not our ability to reason, but rather our ability to use yarn and needles to knit our own books. Craft your own copy of Poetics with today's Groupon: for $12, you get one two-hour knitting class at In The Loop, on Devine Street (a $25 value). Sessions are held Tuesdays at 6 p.m. and Saturdays at 2 p.m., but will be held at additional times and dates based on demand. Groupon buyers are entitled to 10% off all purchases made on the day of their session.
In The Loop is a yarn shop and knitting boutique that aims to keep the spirit of craftiness alive via specialty yarns, project patterns, and knitting classes. Owner Lara's classes offer instructions to beginning pattern pushers as well as intermediate and advanced yarn spinners. The beginner class introduces pupils to two basic stitches, and will prepare them to make a scarf. Beyond the Scarf takes intermediate knitters through the paces of other stitches and the creation of full-body socks and other woven goods. And the advanced project-based classes involve specific undertakings such as the chance to create a sweater, toy, or baby jacket. In order to prevent overloading the yarn-powered generators that fuel the shop, each class is intimately capped at eight participants. In The Loop also keeps a blog filled with further knitting notions.
