Class meets twice each week for three weeks, and prepares students to go on to the club’s more advanced programs. On the first day of class, budding oarsmen tour the boathouse and watch a safety video that illustrates proper precautionary measures. After a rundown of terminology and equipment, students learn how to carry the boat to the dock and lower it into the water. They then practice getting in and out, and once proficient with operating the boat’s child-safety locks, spend the rest of their class time out on the water practicing their rowing strokes and working as a team.
