Horses were once considered man’s best friend, but after the invention of the dog, the horse was rebranded as man’s eccentric, oat-obsessed uncle. Take a journey with the kindest of kinsmen with today's Groupon: for $25, you get a private, one-hour horseback-riding lesson at Libby Ferguson Horse Training Center, located at Apple Hill Farm in Springfield (a $50 value).
Taught by a staff of equestrian instructors and 23-year veteran Libby Ferguson, pupils of various ages and skill levels are introduced to the basics of horseback riding through a private, one-hour lesson in either English- or Western-style courses. Each session begins with an initial grooming process, including brushing and tail-styling.
From there, Libby works with equestrians to build confidence and control in the saddle, allowing riders to accomplish personal goals, whether they just want to know basic maneuvers or achieve equestrian mastery in time to a film an all-horse remake of Citizen Kane. The lesson culminates with a cool-down and after-ride horse care, in which riders check over the horse and practice its secret hoof-shake. Lessons are available at various times throughout the week; contact Libby for times.
