It's important to golf in a group, lest lone players follow a siren caddy's song into a water hazard. The group that putts together stays together with today’s Groupon to Montgomery Village Golf Club. Choose between the following options:

• For $20, you get four buckets of golf balls (an $8 value/bucket) and two beers (a $4 value/beer) for two people (a $40 total value). • For $35, you get eight buckets of golf balls (an $8 value/bucket) and four beers (a $4 value/beer) for four people (an $80 total value).

A former host of the PGA-sanctioned Maryland Open Qualifier and the MAPGA Pro-am, Montgomery Village Golf Club courts the club-laden with a lush 6,700-yard, par 71 course and a full-length driving range. The covered grass-tee driving range, blanketed in both grass and artificial surfaces, keeps players sheltered during all seasons as they add yardage to their drives and disorient sandworms with a rain of dimpled balls. Golfing duos and quartets can likewise whittle the edges of their short game at one of nine pin locations on the full-sized true green. Otherwise, hone challenging midrange shots from a patch of rough or fairway on the auxiliary green. As with most golf outings and spelling bees, the session concludes with participants knocking back an icy-cold brew. Groupon holders can redeem their buckets and beers Monday–Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday from 7 a.m. to 6:30 p.m.

About Montgomery Village Golf Club

Montgomery Village Golf Club's Edmund Ault–designed course sprawls across 6,726 yards of emerald corridors cleaved through the arboreal heart of Montgomery County. Fresh off recent refurbishments that include new tee boxes and switching to a bermuda hybrid grass, management continues to improve on a course that has hosted multiple PGA-sanctioned events and royal grass-grazing parties for traveling goat monarchs. Fairways tunnel through unforgiving tree lines as golfers swing their way toward each green, where fast surfaces form breaking putts. Alongside the pristine par 71, the club's grass-tee driving range, putting green, and full-service pro shop help streamline clubbers' birdie-hunting skills, and the Willow Tree Inn's restaurant and grill keeps players from dining on freshly torn divots with an all-day menu of entrees and drinks.

Nice course layout. Friendly, helpful staff. Greens and fairways not in the best of shape. Well worth the groupon price. Would not pay the full price to play the course.

It's sad that a beautiful course has been left to ruin. A little maintenance would go a long way - especially the greens.
