Though stepmothers consider it a carpet killer, mud remains a powerful protagonist in epic tales of playground battles, music festivals, and collegiate wrestling matches. Muddy Buddy is a six to seven mile off-road race where partners take turns biking, running, and overcoming a series of five obstacles. At the race start, one team member takes off running and the other mounts a spoked steed. At the first obstacle, the rider will drop the bike, complete the obstacle, and begin running. Once the runner arrives, he or she will tackle the obstacle, find the team bike, and begin peddling. Teams will continue in this leapfrog fashion throughout the course, cumulating in a down-and-dirty crawl through the infamous mud pit before crossing the finish line together to begin their lives as official, legally-sanctioned salamanders.
The day's events include a costume contest, with prizes going to the kookiest ensembles or whichever team is brave enough to ruin a pair of rental tuxes. After the race, a celebration involving music, food, and Red Hook beer will commence. Each of-age contestant receives two complimentary beers.
Participants must be at least 18 years of age.
