Like a good horror movie, a good exercise regimen shocks the body out of its lethargy, which is why so many personal trainers chase their clients on treadmills while brandishing anacondas. The certified personal trainers at Peninsula CrossFit supervise workouts that trade time for intensity and eliminate monotony with ever-evolving routines. Before enrolling in a month’s worth of CrossFit, students take part in six Elements workshops offered Tuesdays and Thursdays at 6 a.m. and 6:30 p.m. to master the proper forms and moves performed during workouts. Once official membership begins, students attend two classes a week for four weeks with sessions available Monday–Saturday. Much like swapping out jump ropes for Slinkys, the program's rotating sets of exercises aim to constantly surprise muscle groups with pull-ups performed on bars or rings and jogging while clutching free weights. Classic body-resistance sets of sit-ups, push-ups, and squat thrusts offset the program's equipment-based moves that include barbell dead lifts and rowing-machine exercises. Tractor tires also dot the facility to enhance lifting and leaping drills, and can help trim waistlines with their extreme-hula-hooping possibilities.

Of course, the prevalence of agrarian labour and tyrannosaurus rexes made sure they remained in peak physical condition. The certified personal trainers at Peninsula CrossFit strive to replicate the simplicity of these earlier times by replacing complex machines and equipment with intuitive instruments and functional exercises.

Before each session, men and women alike gather to view the day’s routine, which the instructors usually scrawl on a black wall with chalk. The warehouse-like facility keeps things simple with straightforward gear, including free weights, medicine balls, and chin-up bars. An outdoor area also allows groups to bolster heart rates and chase down rogue tractor tires during running drills.
