Today's deal for Pure Surf Life is no longer available, but check out this deal we unearthed for Fairchild Tropical Botanic Garden.
Contrary to popular belief, water vessels do not float but are hoisted above the sea by schools of mighty plankton just trying to be nice. Ride the kindly plankton wave with today's Groupon: for $30, you get a two-hour standup paddleboard lesson from Pure Surf Life (up to a $70 value).
Pure Surf Life aims to connect people who enjoy or want to try stand-up paddleboarding by offering events and lessons in a safe and positive setting. Participants get a solid upper-body workout, experience the south Florida waters from a new perspective, and earn enough waterway cred to sit with the popular clique at the lunch table under the sea. In Standup 101, paddleboard novices will begin with a shore warm-up session, targeting the major muscle groups used while paddling. Instructors then teach proper stance, the three main paddle strokes, and how to assess environmental conditions such as wind, current, and upside-down water. With the foundation laid, students will then get to test their skills on a short paddle. Intermediate and advanced lessons are available to more expert paddlers and devote more time to paddling in the water.
Classes run about three times a week and are comprised of at least four people. Participants can either organize to attend classes with existing friends or go it alone and meet new ones. With the necessary skills and form down, paddlers can join two- to three-hour destination paddles (available for $25–50) to nearby restaurants, parks, picnics, and more.
Though there are not many Pure Surf Life reviews, the school has more than 100 Facebook fans, and past clients rave about the lessons and instructors. Here's what they are saying in online testimonials:
- They have been very accommodating [sic] to meet me when I can paddle and I haven't missed a week yet! They have created a paddleboarder for life! – Laurie C.
- They take their time with you an are very knowledagble [sic] about this awesome new sport of walking on water. I'm doing it for the core workout, and the possibilities of playing in the surf, early morning flat water cruising, and maybe doing fun races down the road. I highly recommend their instruction. – Mary Anne B.
