During a high-speed canopy tour, Refreshing Mountain Camp’s safety-minded staff send treetop travelers careening down more than 1,400 feet of zipline strung through scenic woods. Groups of up to 10 people snuggle into their harnesses, strap on their helmets, and don protective bow ties to whiz between six progressively taller platforms that top out at more than 65 feet. While in the air, patrons rush past forest greenery bristling with sights, including more than 20 types of trees, a variety of wildlife, and nests of feral Indiana Joneses. Optional midcourse obstacles, such as swinging monkey vines and a rickety bridge, challenge thrill-seeking zippers, and others opt to cross a 70-foot catwalk and continue their ride.
Refreshing Mountain Camp doubles up sections of the course with backup equipment to ensure sojourners’ safety, and experienced guides help each rider slow down before platforms to avoid zipline speeding tickets. In addition, patrons can procure up to three Groupons to share a treetop voyage with up to eight friends.
