A kayak is the perfect vehicle to navigate waterways, glide over ocean swells, and chaperone fish-school field trips. Gain access to your watery destinations with today's Groupon: for $20, you get $40 toward rentals, lessons, or tours from Rocky Point Kayak in Port Moody.
Port Moody local Jamie Cuthbert opened Rocky Point Kayak so that blossoming and fully bloomed paddlers could cruise the calm waters of the Burrard Inlet. Rent a single kayak ($30 for 2 hours) or take a doppelganger in a double kayak ($42 for 2 hours) and splash alongside Indian Arm, a glacial fjord dotted with waterfalls cascading down steep cliffs. Paddle Canada–certified instructors offer lessons to kayakers of all abilities, starting with Introduction to Sea Kayaking ($69), which teaches basic paddling techniques in the wind-protected inlet waters. Tours for diurnal and nocturnal humans are available, including the Full Moon Paddle tour ($60), which starts at sundown and glimpses into the nighttime rituals of local wildlife such as osprey, seals, and voguing bald eagles. Full-moon tours include headlamps and free dessert, and all lessons and tours include kayak and gear rental.
Adventures of the inlet can be prolonged with overnight kayak rentals ($65 for single, $85 for double, both for one night) and camping in the marine parks populating the coastline. Or, keep your shoulder manoeuvring to an afternoon, then join your friends in a congratulatory nap in Rocky Point Park before forming a Soul Train line on the boardwalk or grabbing a bite in a local restaurant.
