What You'll Get
The jubilance of standing up on a surfboard for the first time compares to finishing a Rubik's Cube or smashing a Rubik's Cube with a hammer. Solve the surfing puzzle with today's Groupon: for $20, you get a one-hour group surfing lesson at School of Surf in Cocoa Beach.
School of Surf's professional wave tamers Lauren and Todd Holland teach all levels of water waders to carve currents with shred-worthy zeal. CPR-certified instructors guide classes of three to eight through the basics of wave wrangling and impart seasoned pipeliners with lessons gleaned from the pro surf circuit and Point Break VHS tapes. Students can select their sea chariot from a fleet of soft surfboards—included with the lesson—though advanced cruisers are encouraged to bring their own boards. First-timers will practice standing up and other basics at a comfortable pace, and experienced riders hone their hang-ten skills and shaka salutes.

About School of Surf
Before retiring in 1997, Todd Holland made the NSSA National Team and racked up Rookie of the Year, Coke Classic, and Pepsi Surf the Edge titles. Meanwhile, Lauren McLean Holland was riding the waves for University of Central Florida, claiming one East Coast championship after another. This impressive duo fits seamlessly into School of Surf’s team of CPR-certified teachers, all current or former pro surfers.
During lessons, teachers drill pupils on skills ranging from pop-up fundamentals to more advanced techniques, such as staying atop a groundswell while dueling a swordfish. In addition, teachers offer daily recreational classes and summer day camps, as well as coaching for dedicated surfers looking to win competitions.
