Whizzing around the city using zip lines as your main mode of transport would be great, if the costs associated with Batman-esque rocket-launched grapple hooks weren't so astronomical. Today's deal lays the lines and preps the sites for your convenience: for $40, you get one guided tour from Scream Time Zipline, an $89 value. Your area of exploration is two hours northwest of Charlotte in Zionville (where a shuttle bus will take you into the wild), but the drive is worth it. Zip lines are meant for treetop canopies and natural splendor, not concrete jungles and cityscape.
Don't be surprised if you can't return to civilization after the wild adventure of the zip line, and not just because of the "incident" in Reno. Stepping off a platform into the air and flying above the treetops is unforgettable. Traveling by zip, you'd leave that vine-grappler John Clayton, Lord Greystroke in the dust. A zip line is a pulley suspended on a cable mounted on an incline. Scream Time uses a custom Pinzgauer 6-wheel drive for maximum smoothness and speed. Depending on your body weight, length of the zip, and the slope, you could barrel along at up to 50 mph. Each tour will take you down and across six different lines of varying degrees of awesomeness, from jaw dropping to jaw exploding. Lines are between 450 and 800 feet long, with no two journeys crossing paths for spectacular mid-air collisions. The tours only run on weekends through April, so plan accordingly.
If your keen intellect and quick wit need more stimulation, you'll find it in the sage wisdom of a Scream Time guide explaining both the environment that you're zipping through and his theories about the final season of LOST (spoiler alert: the dog is dreaming). Every 2.5-hour trip operates under strict safety procedures, with your protection being priority number one. Even the 2,000-foot super zip lines (an additional $29 for a ride) guarantee safety in addition to an unforgettable ride.
Reviews
The reviews are polarized, but TripAdvisors give Scream Time Zipline an average of 3.5 owl eyes, saying:
- Great staff, very personable and engaging, Hank and Zack were so much fun to zip with and they made the children feel at ease with the laid back mountain style. Well built course with a focus on safety. – saltandlight, TripAdvisor
- We just returned from a visit to Boone, NC and highly recommend the Scream Time Zipline. It is safe, secure and lots of fun. It is a great intro to a new sport that we will be looking into in the future. – tennisandskibums, TripAdvisor
- The Screamtime employees are very friendly and make you feel very safe. My kids especially loved all of the dogs at their site. The views are beautiful and even though we had originally signed up to do only the 6 zip tour, we added the longer zip line at the end and were not at all sorry. – Jemom68, TripAdvisor
