Bodies of water are frequent metaphors in poetry due to their unfathomable depths, unknowable sprawl, and elusive merpeople. Adventure out into the enigma with today's Groupon: for $11, you get a two-hour narrated river cruise from St. Johns River Cruises in Orange City (up to a $22 value).

Located in Blue Spring State Park, St. Johns River Cruises treats passengers to local wildlife and ecological fun facts during educational cruises along the 310-mile-long river. Two-hour tours are held daily at 10 a.m. and 1 p.m.; nature lovers can climb aboard the Native II to travel along a peaceful corridor of cypress trees at an average speed of six miles per hour. During this smooth and peaceful river ride, eager eyes can absorb every natural detail from alligators bobbing just above the water’s surface to osprey soaring overhead. Meanwhile, ears will soak up the sounds of croaking toads, calling ibis birds, and incisive narration about local flora and fauna given by experienced tour guides. Gentle manatees occasionally push through the river near the boat, adding an air of stoic mystery to the tour, and guides will stop frequently for closer encounters and photo ops with attention-obsessed egrets.

About St. Johns River Cruises

When Winkie and Ron Woxberg moved to the St. Johns River basin in 1979, they immediately fell in love with the area, and it’s easy to see why. The gently flowing river's cypress- and oak-lined banks house myriad forms of wildlife, including manatees, alligators, bald eagles, osprey, and limpkins. Some two decades later, the Woxbergs decided to share the area’s natural beauty with newcomers by starting St. Johns River Cruises. The US Coast Guard–certified couple expertly navigates their specially commissioned vehicle, the Nature II, through the shallow channels of the river basin during daily tours. As the ship putters along at unhurried speeds, its quiet engines make barely any noise, allowing the sweet sounds of singing birds and the unskilled beat-boxing of beached sirens to reach the ears of passengers.
