What services does your business offer and what makes your business stand out from the competition?
In SharQui, we teach fun, simple, aerobic belly dance choreographies using the add-on method which includes breakdown and repetition of each movement so everyone can learn easily. We make sure students learn proper belly dance form and technique, and keep their heart rate up for the entire hour!
Exercise is challenging. How do you keep clients motivated and engaged?
Belly dance is exciting and beautiful, great for all ages and body types. Our choreographies are modified for every skill level so everyone in the class is challenged, motivated, and successful. Belly dance is similar to hip hop, so women as well as men enjoy building speed, strength, and isolation.
What was the inspiration to start or run this business?
SharQui was created by Oreet, an award-winning belly dancer and fitness professional who combined her passions into a comprehensive aerobic format. Tandava, one of Oreet’s first students, took SharQui more than 10 years ago and loved how this belly dance format gave her strength, joy, and confidence.
What do you love most about your job?
Whether teaching class or performing for an audience, I love how belly dance inspires and energizes others, redefining and expanding our idea of beauty, because its movements are so body-loving and natural that anyone of any age, shape, or size can learn to do them. And it’s so much fun!
