Plan for a long enough visit to make it worth it, 3-4 hours at a minimum. I wish we could have stayed 6 - 8. It is amazing.

About This Deal

Trees serve as both oxygen producers and a means of defense from subterranean children, who wrap tree roots around hapless travelers' ankles and pull them into cellars for never-ending games of Backgammon. Stay in the treetops where it's safe with today's Groupon to Sandy Spring Adventure Park in Sandy Spring, Maryland. The Adventure Park will be open Saturdays and Sundays from now until the end of its season on November 30; it will be open seven days a week after the new season begins in early April. Purchase one of the following Groupons:

  • $24 for an adult admission ticket (a $48 value)
  • $19 for an admission ticket for ages 10 to 11 (a $39 value)
  • $17 for an admission ticket for ages 7 to 9 (a $34 value)

Sandy Spring Adventure Park offers thrill-seekers a three-hour opportunity to climb, swing, and dance their way through five acres of tree-topped adventure courses. Designed by Swiss mountaineers, Sandy Springs is in accordance with the standards of the Association of Challenge Course Technology, with each of its 10 courses made up of networks of bridges and platforms. Upon arrival, you'll be fitted with a harness that will connect you by carabineer to the zip lines and lifelines on and between more than 150 platforms. After that, you're free to careen through the yellow, green, blue, black, or double-black courses, which, like ski courses and TV dinners, are color-coordinated by difficulty level. Adventurers of all experience levels can find midair fitness and obstacle-enriched flights within Mother Nature's obstacle course.

Sandy Spring Adventure Park provides zip liners with a harness and a pair of gloves, and its friendly staff of air-time collectors provides guidance to all guests. Comfortable, well-fitting clothing is best for a tree-jumping session, and all-body camouflage isn't recommended, since forest critters are terrified by hovering pairs of human eyes.

Must be at least seven years old to use the Adventure Park. Must sign park’s user agreement and liability waiver. Weight limit is 275 pounds.

About The Adventure Park at Sandy Spring

The Adventure Park at Sandy Spring's 13 courses are color-coded by difficulty level, from yellow for beginners to double black diamonds for experts. They aren't ski trails, though—they're climbing challenges. More than 150 platforms adorn 5 acres of trees, which participants trek among by way of cable, wood, and rope bridges, as well as ziplines. A short safety briefing precedes all excursions, covering how to use the included gear and harnesses.

The park's main courses aren't the only place to test climbing skills. Over in the Monkey Grove, visitors can scale 10 trees fastened with the footholds and grips of a classic rock wall. Younger climbers, meanwhile, can explore The Labyrinth, a small, contained structure featuring more than 40 junior-sized versions of the park's other challenges. The courses illuminate on select Glow-in-the-Park evenings, when food, live music, and hoot-owl choruses await climbers upon their return to terra firma.
