Before zip-lining was invented, the best way to get a free-flying rush was by painting your entire body silver and impersonating a hood ornament. Suspend yourself with today's Groupon: for $48, you get a zip-line tour for two at The Beanstalk Journey at Catawba Meadows in Morganton (a $98 value). Zip-lining journeys take between 2 and 2.5 hours.

At The Beanstalk Journey, aerial adventurers navigate a labyrinthine network of zip lines and sky bridges connecting a village of tree houses some 50 feet above the ground. Each tree house serves as a rest stop or education station with 360-degree views of Catawba Meadows Park, where visitors can learn about local history, the surrounding flora and fauna, and the origin of the Keebler elves that originally inhabited the village. Traversing from tree house to tree house via sky bridges and zip lines culminates in the ultimate rope ladder, the 32-foot beanstalk rope tower and giant central climbing web.

Spider monkeys and panda bears alike find an adventure to match their skill set or desired level of exertion within The Beanstalk Journey's al fresco confines. Aspiring air-riders should be sure to wear closed-toe shoes, longer shorts or pants, a hair tie for long hair, and a strap to secure glasses, cameras, and wayward wallets.

Though The Beanstalk Journey features discounted prices online, today's Groupon still offers the best deal available.

About The Beanstalk Journey

The treetops are traditionally the playground of winged beasts and tiny, furry climbers. So it's not unnatural to do a double take upon seeing humans flying from tree to tree—at heights of up to 50 feet—with all the grace of a forest native. Today, 15 treehouses peek through the leaves of the sprawling wooded area, serving as resting points to gather and take in the view from a bird’s eye. The Beanstalk Journey at Catawba Meadows came to fruition to fulfill its builders’ goal of providing fun and physical activities for families to enjoy. Now the park is open March through December, supplying adrenaline-pumping recreation to all who seek it.

Like veins coursing through the forest, swinging rope bridges and rope tunnels run through the foliage alongside ziplines of varying difficulty levels, enabling visitors to soar from tree to tree and finally assuage any regrets about not being born with hollow bird bones. For an extra challenge, the 32-foot beanstalk climbing tower and a massive multidirectional climbing web put upper- and lower-body strength to the test. In addition to the standard attractions, outings can also be catered to visitors with special needs.

Combining the park's adventure opportunities with a prime location in the foothills of Western North Carolina it’s easy to make a day of exploring and challenging all aspects of the body. Visitors are invited to come for a high-flying adventure - stay for the 18-hole disc golf course, family playgrounds with perfect picnic opportunity, sand volleyball and the Catawba River Greenway.
