It has been said that to find true joy, one must ingest a thousand rose petals, housebreak a camel, and scale the world's largest boulder. Today's Groupon gets you one step closer to that elusive feat: for $20, you get three weeks of unlimited climbing at The Circuit Bouldering Gym (a $42 value).

With two facilities, located on Southwest Macadam Avenue and 17th Avenue, The Circuit boasts two of the largest bouldering-only gyms in the world. Inside, climbers cling to low-to-the-ground rocks where they're free from ropes, harnesses, and hungry mountain goats. No experience is necessary, meaning novice climbers and hard-core devotees alike can creep under, over, and possibly through the colorful collection of faux boulders. The climbing routes change on a weekly basis, ensuring a varied selection of new challenges each visit. The kid-friendly gym also houses a special children's section, which features a climb up to a slide that ferries young explorers to the cushioned floor. Though no special equipment is required, climbing shoes ($4) and chalk buckets ($2) are available for rental. Minors are required to have a parent or legal guardian sign a waiver prior to arrival.

Bouldering is a great way to build upper-body strength, improve flexibility, and burn calories from recent syrup-eating contests. With hard work and regular training, anyone of any age can learn this valuable getaway technique for quickly scaling walls and navigating neighborhood meteors.

Urban Climber magazine featured The Circuit Bouldering Gym. Yelpers give The Circuit a perfect five-star rating.

  • Matt Slayton, the operations manager, is keen on making sure the gym's 300+ problems change on a regular basis to keep this boulder field fresh and fun and he can back it up. "I'll be here until three in the morning everyday if I have to, to make sure the problems are being rotated out," he says. But don't worry, he shouldn't have to stay that late with the highly motivated and friendly staff he's assembled to keep the joint running smoothly. – Spencer Williams, Urban Climber
  • Great place to boulder, the best I've been to [sic] the lower 48. – Andrea V., Yelp

The Circuit Bouldering Gym

When some bouldering enthusiasts crossed paths at a local Portland-area gym, they found they all wanted to expand the area's bouldering options. So they founded The Circuit Bouldering Gym, a facility focused on community building, where like-minded people can pursue similar passions in an encouraging and safety-conscious environment.

Today, Circuit encourages visitors to try new things and push the limits of their comfort zones. Boasting three of the largest bouldering-only gyms in the world, they also designed many of their simulated climbing stations as top-out boulders, letting guests experience what it's like to actually climb outdoors. Additionally, they instruct guests with programs such as 90-minute intro courses, advanced clinics with professional climber athletes, and programs tailored for kids including birthday parties, after-school programs, and summer and winter-break camps.

The third and newest location in Tigard offers a state-of-the-art facility with over 19,000 square feet of bouldering and yoga. All yoga takes place at the new Ganesha and Hanuman studios at Tigard, and all locations also have a full weights area, allowing for workouts and CrossFit training.
