Running outdoors allows humans to tap primal reserves, recalling an ancestor's frolic through a spirited 10K to determine cave dominancy. Channel your ancestral roots with today's Groupon to Maudie's Moonlight Margarita Run, benefiting The Trail Foundation. The starting gun fires at 8 p.m. on Thursday, June 16, 2011. Choose between the following options:
- For $15, you get one entry into the race and a T-shirt (a $30 value).
- For $57, you get one entry into the race, a T-shirt, and admission to the post-race gala on the grounds of the American Legion Hall on Veterans Drive (a $95 value).
The seventh-annual Maudie’s Moonlight Margarita Run is a 5K road race on the Trail at Lady Bird Lake, with all proceeds benefiting The Trail Foundation, an organization that protects the hike-and-bike trail surrounding Lady Bird Lake. Funds will be used toward completing the trail by closing the 1.1-mile gap, inserting some camouflaged ramps, and installing a series of flaming hoops.
Beginning at “the rock” at the Johnson Creek Trailhead near Austin High School, participants will run an out-and-back course, finishing their jaunt on Veterans Drive. After the race's conclusion, good times will commence at the post-race gala with the help of the run's underwriting sponsor, Maudie’s Tex-Mex, which will provide dinner, margaritas, beer, and ice cream to replenish calories lost to frequent, victorious fist-pumping along the course. While sipping and snacking, party-going racers can don their free T-shirt and shake their runners to live music under the stars.
