About Train Yard Gym & Fitness
What services does your business offer and what makes your business stand out from the competition?
We offer 24/7 access to strength and cardio equipment for those who just want to do their own thing, fitness classes for people who like the social aspect and extra motivation of working with a group, and personal training for anyone who wants expert help with their goals. We also offer batting cages and conditioning for sports teams. Everyone tells us that what sets us apart most is the atmosphere of having a gym family. Everyone feels welcome and our members and staff really encourage each other and have a great time doing it!
What was the inspiration to start or run this business?
During my Air Force career, people were always asking us for fitness guidance at every base gym we went to. We have a passion for helping people see what a difference they can make in their lives by getting fit, healthy, and more energetic, and I guess it shows! When we moved back to the Central PA area, we decided that even though the gym business can be intimidating, it's what we are meant to do.
What do you love most about your job?
Showing people they can do much more than they thought they could, and then seeing the confidence they gained from their physical accomplishments spill over into other aspects of their lives.
What is the best reaction you've ever gotten from a customer?
There are so many, but one of my favorites occurred when I took a group of beginner runners I had trained to their first 5K race. One of my runners was a big guy who had a lot more trouble with the training than the others. He spent the entire race trying to get ahead of one particular girl in front of him, and he edged her out right before the finish line. What a look of supreme victory...he left that race ready to take on the world!
