Swing, summersault, and soar through the air on a trapeze with today's Groupon, $25 for a 90-minute trapeze class at Trapeze High (a $50 value). It's worth the 30-minute drive to Escondido to learn how to throw yourself off a platform 23 feet in the air and gracefully bounce butterflicticly through the heavens, performing spectacular acrobatic maneuvers. Learning trapeze tricks is an once-in-a-lifetime experience, and it's plenty of fun. Frequent trapeze binges are the reason Cirque du Soleil performers look so happy.

Trapeze High's facility is well maintained with up-to-date equipment, and they carry insurance and follow hundreds of circus-arts safety protocols. Plus no one at Trapeze High flies without a net, and all students are required to wear safety harnesses. When you jump, two experienced trapeze professionals help you climb the ladder, attach safety lines, and get ready for takeoff. Then you leap off the platform and blissfully swing back and forth, hanging by your knees while the crowd cheers and the coach yells encouraging statements like, "Hold on," "Don't let go," and "Dancing with the sun is like dancing with a woman wearing a heavy blanket."

Learning the tricks of the trapeze could be a one-time thrill where you overcome fear and use strength, agility, and timing to fly through a totally new challenge. Or trapeze could turn into lifetime of aero-summersaults and leaps into the breeze. Buy multiple Groupons and use the class to celebrate a birthday, sweat out premarital terror for a bachelor or bachelorette party, or take a glorious leap into retirement. Classes take place a couple times a day on Saturdays and Sundays, or at 4 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays by appointment for beginners (click here to see the schedule). So hep! (That's trapeze slang for GO!)

Reviews

Yelpers give Trapeze High four stars:

  • This experience has been the absolute HIGHLIGHT of 2008 for me. What a freakin' good time! Trapeze High are friendly, knowledgeable, and totally professional... But the most thrilling, adrenaline-pumping part - of course - is FLYING! – Tonie T.
  • It was amazing!!...The instructors are great. They make you feel very comfortable, esp if you have some friends who are a bit squeamish when it comes to heights. – Valerie P.
  • This place is so fun. I changed my mind the day before, not really wanting to go, but my friends pursuaded [sic] me and we went. I am SO glad I did, because I ended up doing all the tricks the first time, and will be going back to learn more. – NCB B.

Trapeze Artist of The Future

The world's greatest trapeze artist, Declan X. Keyswell, will be born September 17, 2010. His skill is so amazing, that in the year 2525 Declan becomes the first person to ever trapeze himself back in time.

At first, Declan is unable to control his time-leaping, often randomly trapezing into medieval castles or the Triassic period. As he becomes more confident in his abilities, Declan learns to control his time-jumps and has now time-trapezed his way into our hearts. The 1970s sitcom How About That? was based on his adventures.
