We spent 3 hours exploring the mangroves with a SUP and a kayak. Saw lots of birds, saw lots of fish roll over, and pulled up on Bunche Beach for a while. We had been using inflatable SUP and kayak, and this was such an improvement over that.
Jake took great care of us and I learned some new stuff from him. Thanks Jake!

Maxwell was so helpful from start to finish. He didn't pressure us, but gave us options to move forward if we decided to paddle even remembering our names when we returned to book. We were impressed! He was knowledgeable and efficient getting us out on the water quickly. We thoroughly enjoyed paddling through the mangroves and viewing different birds along the way. Opting not to take the tour and paddle on our own instead, Maxwell gave us some possible places for sighting manatees and yay! It paid off. Saw a mama and baby manatee. We paddled back along the beach. My only gripe was not being advised about sandbars. We tried paddling out and around them, but eventually I gave up and got out and walked my kayak until I could catch a mangrove trail. But having seen the beautiful beach, I wished we had brought a picnic to enjoy there on a sandbar or the beach. A little bit of everything in 3 hrs time.
I was comfortable in the single kayak. I wasn't keen on a sit-on-top kayak, but the single had a sitting area and sturdy backrest. I did get more wet than I expected so heed their advice and wear quick dry clothing and/or bring a change of clothes (no drip cups on the paddles and the waves did toss water in my kayak from the beach paddle portion).

So many birds! Green heron, great blue, yellow crowned, ibis, pelicans, osprey. I did the loop and it was a fun contrast going from the mangrove tunnel to the open water crossing.

Beautiful location and quality kayaks. Very friendly and helpful staff. Mangrove trails were lovely and easy to follow with the color map they provided.
