Today's Groupon offers a pole-based exercise more effective than 1920s pole sitting, more energizing than pole-vaulting, and more sensual than polenta: for $25, you get four pole-dance classes at one of two Vixen Fitness studio locations: on Russell Street in Detroit or on Washtenaw Road in Ypsilanti. Pole classes are scheduled throughout the week at both locations. Students are encouraged to wear comfortable workout clothing, but stilettos are welcome in addition to bare feet.
Because it is a women's-only studio, Vixen Fitness gives ladies a safe, all-inclusive arena for awakening their inner goddess—while protecting men from accidentally being transformed into stags by the sight of those goddesses. Pole classes tone fine fibrous muscles through eclectic, total-body workouts and are organized by experience. Newbies begin their ascent up the pole with some beginner-friendly floor work, transitions, and spin mastery. Intermediate students will hone their climbing, inversions, and dismounts. The highest levels will master advanced techniques, such as dominating the pole by tying it into a pretty bow with one’s thighs. No matter what experience level walks in, the Vixen fitness team will tailor the structure of each class according to ability, allowing ladies of all ages, builds, and curvaceous varietals to improve their skills, boost confidence, and build strength. All pole sessions are kept to a small class size in order to keep one-on-one face time high and pole-summiting objectives even higher.
Whether you're looking to spicy up your love life or tone up your curves, Vixen Fitness will have you arching your back as if you were a sexy long-haired wildcat, not to be confused with the long-eared hedgehog, which is really more cute than sexy. Vixen Fitness’s certified instructor Danielle Green was fed up with the lack of exercise programs designed to empower women. After a year of throwing private dance parties in her clients’ homes, Danielle realized that many women pursue fitness to feel desirable, which involves not only simple aesthetics, but also self-confidence. Her insights panned out. Today, her all-female fitness operation includes a studio where she and her team of sultry instructors help women unleash their inner vixen. In a comfortable setting, women swivel into leaner bodies during pole-dancing and sensual-dance classes. When they’re not teaching lap dance and strip-tease workshops, teachers help students carve out fitter frames with pole burn—exercises that hone strength and flexibility—and host the original bachelorette and girl’s night out parties that inspired the studio's beginning.
