A Drought-Friendly Way to Clean Your Carpet

With the drought showing no signs of letting up, now is not the time to be wasting precious water on dirty floors. In cities like Phoenix, carpet cleaning has to be done in a different way. Enter the encapsulation method, a low-water, environmentally friendly solution capable of erasing everything from spilled wine to muddy paw prints. To help you figure out if low-water cleaning is right for you, we’ve put together this helpful guide.

So What Is Encapsulation?

It’s time-tested. This technique is built upon the old-fashioned shampoo method of carpet cleaning. A rotary machine scrubs each fiber of the carpet, releasing soil and dirt to mingle with the encapsulation solution. This solution replaces old-school shampoos, using a crystallizing polymer to harden around dirt particles so that they can be vacuumed away.

It’s efficient. For every gallon of water containing diluted detergent, technicians can clean up to 300 square feet with their scrubbers. The machine’s inherent mobility speeds up the work, helping achieve speeds of up to 2,000 square feet in an hour, especially in big, open commercial spaces. The low water cost translates into a quick drying time, with most carpets typically ready to be walked on in a couple of hours.

It’s eco-friendly. This method wastes little water and produces little to no runoff. High-end encapsulation detergents have very few, if any, environmentally harmful ingredients in them. ENCAP- CLEAN DS, one particularly prevalent formula, has only a single ingredient that OSHA feels is worth pointing out on its Material Safety Data Sheet: alcohol.
