If you’re short on time (or vacation days), weekend getaways are great for helping you recharge and are relatively easy to fit into a busy schedule. So scrap your Saturday to-do list and take one of these trips—unlike your workweek, they won’t require shoving too much into too little time. With just one must-do activity in each city, you can truly kick back.
What to do: Your schedule (and your liver) won’t let you visit all of the 100-plus breweries in San Diego in one weekend. But you’ll find some of the city’s top-rated outfits—including Green Flash and AleSmith—in the Mira Mesa and Miramar neighborhoods. Head north for another cluster of breweries near Highway 78, otherwise known as the Hops Highway.
What to do: With about 1,000 food trucks and trailers, Austin is a food lover’s paradise. Best of all, the trucks are grouped in several spots around the city, so you can sample anything from crepes to jerk chicken in one location. Sure beats whatever microwaved leftovers you scarf down on your lunch break at work.
Where to stay: Embassy Suites by Hilton Austin Downtown/Town Lake, about a 10-minute walk from food trucks on South Congress Avenue to the south and a 15-minute walk from trucks on 6th Street to the north
What to do: Play a couple rounds amid the Alleghenies on the scenic Meadows course at The Greenbrier, named 1 of the 20 best golf resorts by Golf Digest. Enjoy all that fresh mountain air while you’re out on the course.
Where to stay: right at the 4.5-star Greenbrier resort, in a luxe room or suite with a view of the mountains
What to do: If your last massage involved rubbing your own aching feet after taking your work shoes off, you should pencil in some me time. Unwind in one of Tucson’s famed spas, where body treatments incorporate essentials oils and other natural ingredients.
Where to stay: the 4-star Westin La Paloma Resort & Spa, where a signature treatment smoothes skin with a sugar scrub and a body wrap infused with milk and honey
