About The Living Desert Zoo and Gardens
Since it’s establishment in 1970, The Living Desert has been engaged in desert conservation through preservation, education, and appreciation. The AZA-accredited zoo and gardens features a dedicated conservation team that tends to over 1200 plants and 450 different types of animals populating more than 1,800 acres of desert—1,000 of which remain in their natural, undisturbed state. Here, guests of all ages can explore nature, learning about the world’s desert plants and animals through family-friendly informative exhibits, botanical gardens, hiking trails, and interactive shows and attractions. Through annual contributions, members of the nonprofit organization help preserve the Colorado Desert and bolster the population of endangered desert species. Members also gain unlimited access to the park, discounts in the gift shop, and invitations to special events, such as the annual member-cheetah race.
