Similar to tickling a bear without losing an arm, the art of breathing underwater requires years of practice and dedication. Introduce your lungs to aqueous awareness with today’s Groupon: for $225, you get a scuba-certification package at Carolina Dive Center (a $454 total value). The package includes:
- Open Water diving-certification class (a $375 value), which includes:
- Three classroom sessions or equivalent completed online
- Three pool sessions
- Four open-water quarry dives
- Boat-dive training class (a $79 value), which occurs in tandem with the last seven open water–certification classes.<p>
This Groupon does not include required quarry checkout dive fees ($30 total) or a mask, fins, and snorkel, which can be purchased at a discount or rented ($20 per rental). The class schedule is flexible, offering weeknight and weekend classes year-round.
Carolina Dive Center’s NAUI- and SDI-certified instructors lead aspiring aquatic explorers through comprehensive academic and hands-on lessons during Open Water diving-certification classes for pupils aged 10 and older. During in-class or online learning, students absorb the intricacies and science of scuba and its accompanying equipment as well as underwater environments like coral reefs and mermaid nightclubs. Pool sessions provide a comfortable space for future divers to exercise newfound scuba-equipment knowledge under the watchful eye of patient instructors. The final phase of certification occurs in the open water of a quarry, where maritime apprentices complete four checkout dives to prove their readiness for the high seas.
Students also attend boat-dive training to enhance skills for Caribbean vacations and missions to find and file down the four corners of the Earth. During quarry sessions, the class will cover how to properly enter and exit a boat as well as various safety procedures and navigation techniques to fit all types of oceanic scenarios.

Before each lesson or scuba diving adventure, Carolina Dive Center owners Captain Jim Sedore and Paul Winders outfit each of their certified divers with the necessities to fit in with undersea fashion experts. After donning wetsuits and underwater breathing apparatuses, guests follow the experts in classes, tours, and spearfishing adventures. Students may also log hours during courses as they work toward their own diving certifications.
