Music is force powerful enough to calm a baby, soothe a wild beast, or compel the two to dance with each other. Be overcome by this GrouponLive deal to see "BPOlé! A Night of Latin Music" performed by the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra with Wendall Rivera and his Latin Jazz Ensemble at Kleinhans Music Hall. For $49, you get two tickets for best-available seating, located in blue on the seating chart, on Friday, July 13, at 7 p.m. (up to a $109 value). Doors open at 5:30 p.m.
The Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra energizes eardrums and eyeballs alike with an evening of Latin music and dancing helmed by maestro Matthew Kraemer. Acclaimed percussionist Wendell Rivera and his Latin Jazz Ensemble join forces with the Philharmonic to kick off the BPO Summer Nights at Kleinhans concert series, an evening of Afro-Caribbean grooves and Puerto Rican swing. A Buffalo Music Hall of Famer who has played with the likes of Aretha Franklin and Ben Vereen, Rivera evokes the dancehall pizzazz of Tito Puente and the progressive jazz of Dizzy Gillespie with his conga-drum finesse. Praised by Latin Beat Magazine for laying down "some of the freshest Latin jazz grooves around," Rivera, his ensemble, and the Grammy-winning virtuosos of the BPO infuse "BPOlé!" with upbeat tempos and instrumental harmonies.
The hip-shaking concert will be performed on the orchestra's home field at Kleinhans Music Hall, a national historic landmark renowned for its combination of structural grace and extraordinary acoustics. Preshow happy hour at 5:30 p.m. includes dance lessons courtesy of the Latin American Institute, and an after-show dance party encourages conga lines and other rhythmic legwork. Buffalo food trucks will be available on site, or guests are welcome to bring their own food to enjoy by the reflecting pool.
Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra
Though playing 120 concerts a year is a dream for some musicians, it's a reality for members of the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra. The classical musicians perform concerts at their home base, Kleinhans Music Hall, as well as throughout the U.S. In doing so, they introduce listeners to music ranging from Tchaikovsky to Duke Ellington, a task they've been up to since the orchestra's founding in 1934. In addition to performing live, they've also released a large number of CDs including Holiday Classics and Built for Buffalo that are available for sale.
