The Civil War Center of Texas, a volunteer-run association of Civil War historians, transports onlookers back to the nineteenth century with the sixth-annual Battle for Beaumont Hill Civil War Reenactment at Beaumont Ranch on Saturday, March 10, and Sunday, March 11. Volunteers in period-appropriate garb, such as gray Confederate jackets and neon shutter-shade sunglasses, illustrate the turmoil of battle through a town raid at 11 a.m. and a battle reenactment at 1 p.m. on both days. As the roar of cannons booms throughout the ranch, volunteer conscientious objectors stage living-history demonstrations, educating attendees firsthand on some of the customs of the time. Visitors watch and learn as actors demonstrate such vital nineteenth-century skills as spinning, weaving, quilting, and reciting Shakespearean monologues.
