March Racing at Countyline Dragway
In the remaining weeks of March, Countyline Dragway will rumble to life multiple times to thrill spectators with supersonic competition. Next Saturday, the IHRA-sanctioned track picks up where it left off with a rotary versus piston shootout, plus bracket racing between import and domestic vehicles. After having its cracks stitched up throughout the week, the dragway will host another batch of matches on March 22, including some for cash prizes, before capping off the month on March 29 with outlaw grudge contests and drifting. Each event will also feature test and tune opportunities, when drivers are invited to try out new equipment or make sure their car runs like it did before a recent case of the sniffles.
The ground on which Countyline Dragway is built was already used for speed: it was once the Opa Locka West Airport. But in 2007, Countyline Dragway became the first official IHRA drag strip ever organized in Miami. The 1/8-mile, family-owned track was an immediate draw for drivers and enthusiasts alike, and between 2007 and 2012, it hosted more than 200,000 races and more than one million spectators. Today, the dragway continues to add to its growing list of champions, all while providing drivers with a safe, legal alternative to racing in the streets or down the hallways of local offices.
