Jerusha Abbott longs to go to college, but the young woman, a resident of a New England orphanage, doesn’t have the means to attend. Enter an unknown benefactor who promises to pay for her education—as long as she writes him a monthly letter. Jerusha obliges, dubbing her personal philanthropist Daddy Long Legs after she catches a glimpse of his statuesque frame. As her quick wit and engaging persona spring from her letters, each punctuated with her passion for literature, her benefactor falls in love with her and conspires to finally meet her in person…
Staged with just two actors who happen to be married in real life—Les Misérables’ Megan McGinnis and Kinky Boot’s Adam Halpin—the intimate musical weaves the love story through contemporary songs performed by a nearby trio of musicians and penned by composer Paul Gordon. The result: an original musical the New York Times declared “sweet and beautifully sung” and Broadwayworld.com dubbed “an absolute charmer” with “an exquisite score.”
