A Guide to Game Night at American Airlines Center

  • Parking’s a pain—take the train. Parking fees aren’t atrocious, but nothing beats the convenience of public transit that stops right in front of the arena. Park at a DART station and take the green or orange line directly to Victory Station.
  • Start (or finish) the game with some fresh air. Save some of your alcohol budget for a pre- or post-game trip to the Jack Daniel’s Old No. 7 Club, where they serve whiskey cocktails on an outdoor patio.
  • Impress your friends with some fast facts. Here are a couple to get you started: The arena holds 20,000 seats in its basketball setup; in 2015 it was named by Billboard as the 5th busiest arena in the US; it was the first NBA or NHL arena to install a 1080 high-def replay system.

About Dallas Mavericks

In 1979, millionaire Donald J. Carter and Mavericks' founding president, Norm Sonju, began making efforts to secure an NBA team in Dallas. His dream became a reality at the 1980 All-Star game, when league owners voted to admit the new franchise for an entry fee of $12 million and Mr. Carter's entire baseball-card collection. The newly formed Mavs experienced quick success, making the postseason six times during their first decade. The 1990s proved not so kind, however; the team failed to make the playoffs even once. That ineptitude came to a prompt halt with the start of the new millennium, when, under a fresh and outspoken ownership regime, the team set off a string of 12 straight playoff appearances, highlighted by its first NBA title in 2011.
