The platforms are on, the hair is teased, and the polyester shirts are unbuttoned to to show the chicest amount of chest fuzz possible. Manhattan’s A-list, decked out in their disco finery, set out to celebrate the grand opening of the Barracuda, a floating casino and discotheque. But much more awaits them than blackjack and “The Hustle.” For the glamorous ship floats directly above a fault line, and nature’s clock is ticking.
Seth Rudetsky and Jack Plotnick’s hilarious jukebox musical featuring Tony Award winning stars of Rent, Rock of Ages, Hairspray, Xanadu, Guys and Dolls, and The Producers sends up ‘70’s disaster movies such as The Poseidon Adventure, Airport, and Saturday NIght Fever 3: Staying Less Alive. The characters are just as colorful as the ones found in those films, from a a beautiful showgirl to a forlorn disaster expert and a gambling-addicted nun. The gang belts out some of your favorite songs from the ‘70’s such as “Knock On Wood”, “Hooked on a Feeling”, “Sky High”, “I Am Woman”, and “Hot Stuff””as they fight against flames, killer bees, piranhas, earthquakes, and tidal wives in a quest to survive the world’s worst party. The zaniness has won over many critics, including Time Out’s Adam Feldman, who wrote in a five-star review “…I can’t remember the last time I laughed out loud at the theater as often as I did at Disaster!.”
