Galena Street East’s 43rd Annual Holiday Tapestry: “Passport to the Holidays”
Galena Street East’s annual holiday shows have boosted the spirits of Sacramento for generations. In their latest festive offering, a youthful cast whisks audiences away on a trip through the world’s folk dances. The brightly costumed performers step and spin through global choreography from Norway, Turkey, India, and China, all set to the tune of seasonal songs played on freshly stamped passports.
Galena Street East
In the words of Arnold Schwarzenegger, "California's performing arts community thrives because of dedicated groups like [Galena Street East], who give our youth the opportunity to express themselves through dance and music." When artistic and musical directors Richard and Jeri Clinger founded their company in 1972, they never would have expected praise from the Governator, nor to become Sacramento's ambassadors of dance. Yet it's their talent for finding and nurturing young talent that has made Galena Street East a vital part of the city's creative community. With help from acclaimed choreographer Ron Cisneros—who has worked with artists including Lucille Ball and helped Elvis to artistically swivel his hips—the duo has fostered the talent of such groups as an international children's chorus, their East Street Gang of doo-wop singers, and their Appalachian folk dance troupe, the East Street Cloggers.
