In Bed with Roy Cohn
Roy Cohn, Senator Joseph McCarthy’s right-hand man and one of the most controversial men in history, has already been dramatized onstage as a supporting character in Tony Kushner’s Angels In America. But in the “serious comedy” In Bed with Roy Cohn, the spotlight turns completely on him and his colorful, if often disturbing, life. On his deathbed after contracting AIDS, Cohn encounters important figures from his time, including Julius Rosenberg, Ronald Reagan, Barbara Walters, his lover Serge, his mother Dora, and his own youthful self. The parade of visitors sends Cohn into a surreal wonderland where he must confront his crimes, from persecuting the Rosenbergs to targeting alleged homosexuals in the Lavender Scare, all while having hidden the fact that he kept male lovers of his own.
