A Guide to Gameday at Byrd Stadium
- It’s got a great view.: From the top level, you can see the Washington Monument, the United States Capitol, the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception, the Old Post Office Pavilion, and the Washington National Cathedral.
- And some royal history. This is where Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip saw their first American football game.
- And a mascot named Testudo. He’s a terrapin, naturally, just like the diamondback terrapins that populate the Chesapeake Bay regions. The swamp-loving turtles were especially common in Crisfield, home of stadium namesake and Terrapin coach Dr. Harry C. “Curley” Byrd.
