Director JC Carter channels Peter Shaffer’s Tony Award-winning script to depict the rivalry between established composer Antonio Salieri and rising genius Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. The court of Austrian Emperor Josef II swirls around the conflict between Salieri’s disgust with Mozart’s graceless, selfish manner and his jealousy over Mozart’s artistic talent and striking profile in a leather jacket. The play itself, inspired by Pushkin’s Mozart and Salieri, won near-universal acclaim upon its debut and has been adapted into an Academy Award-winning 1984 film.
