Robocop! The Musical
Alex Murphy is just a regular ol’ cop in the regular ol’ dystopia of futuristic Detroit. He likes law-abiders, he doesn’t like gangs, and he especially doesn’t like corrupt corporations trying to fill the streets with prototype law-enforcement robots. Unfortunately, Murphy’s dislikes don’t like him, either. After Omni Consumer Products demos the quick-shooting ED-209 police drone, a ruthless gang guns down Murphy in the middle of the street, and Murphy becomes the company’s new prototype. Now more machine than man, Murphy has four primary directives programmed into him: serve the public, protect the innocent, uphold the law . . . and make ‘em laugh.
This Robocop has funny bones in his crosshairs courtesy of Go Comedy, the creators behind Robocop! The Musical. To help Murphy achieve it, they’ve laced the script with parody, wit, and musical numbers with titles such as “I Don’t Know (How to Love a Robot)” and “It’s Not Easy Being Gay When You’re a Gangster.” The end result is one part homage to the 1987 film and one part knee-slapping camp.
