The Scouting Report
With only a month of regular-season baseball remaining, the Mariners have a chance to play spoiler to the division-rival Rangers. Texas is currently barely hanging onto its wild card berth, and Seattle’s sturdy sluggers—fronted by MLB home-run leader Nelson Cruz—hope to shut down the Rangers’ playoff hopes and give them an early start on their October pumpkin carving. There’s reason to expect a strong Seattle showing, as so far this season, the Mariners are 8–4 against their Lone Star State foes.
The Seattle Mariners have represented Washington since 1977. And since 1999, the team has dazzled hometown crowds at Safeco Field. The park boasts an elaborate scoreboard system that features one of the largest video screens in baseball. A convertible rooftop covers the ballpark without closing it off, preserving an open-air environment that allows fans to bask in fresh Seattle breezes.
