The Issue: High Dropout Rate in Washoe County
In the Washoe County School District, 37% of students failed to graduate in 2010, according to district data published by KNPB, the local public-television station. Positive programming starting in the early grades can help keep children engaged and motivated, contributing to their academic success in the long term.
The Campaign: Implementing Golf Program at a Local School
If this Grassroots campaign raises $210, then The First Tee of Northern Nevada can purchase the Starting New at Golf (SNAG) equipment necessary to implement its in-school outreach program at Northern Nevada schools. The program, which is active in more than 4,800 schools across the country, introduces youth to golf and life-skills concepts and engages students in physical-fitness activities. Each additional $210 raised will be used to purchase SNAG equipment and implement the program at another area school.
