The best way to catch a fish is to think like a fish, which means fretting about how to put all 4,000 of your kids through fish college. Catch a whole school with this Groupon.
$25 for a Half-Day Fishing Trip for an Adult ($50 Value)
Roughly 10 miles off the coast, sufficiently surrounded by the Gulf of Mexico, Hubbard’s Marina's half-day fishing trips anchor. The marina’s US Coast Guard–certified deep-sea-fishing vessel bobs in the water, stretching out 72 feet long to accommodate 40–50 hopeful fishers. From their watery post, passengers cast lines to lure gray snapper, sea bass, porgies, and trigger fish. The trip lasts five hours—one hour of travel into the Gulf, three hours of bait-and-tackle time, and another hour of travel inland. Each fish that is caught will be placed on a stringer line and stored in an icebox. Customers will be given a stringer number that corresponds to their line, and at the end of the trip, the crew will call out the stringer numbers and customers can pick up their fish. Though not included in the Groupon, customers can have their catches cleaned when they return to the dock or cooked at the famous Friendly Fisherman Restaurant.
During the fall and winter, the trips depart at 8 a.m. each day and return at 1 p.m. This Groupon includes cut bait, but does not include rod and reel rental. Customers can rent their rod and reel ($7.50), or bring light tackle from home, preferably a 40-pound test line, 4-ounce sinker, and 3/0 hook. See the FAQs for more information.
Looking out at the quiet, moonlit waters of the Gulf of Mexico, it’s impossible to know what’s on the line, other than that it’s big. Word has spread around the deep-sea-fishing boat, and now a crowd has gathered on either side of you. You pull the fishing pole back and guide whatever is snagged on the other end of the line nearer and nearer. The splashes gradually become louder. A few fellow fishermen help pull the creature onto the boat, and proudly hold the fish up for the crowd.
There are countless deep-sea-fishing tales like this one to be told at Hubbard’s Marina. During its many day or night fishing trips, its crew and guest fishermen board the US Coast Guard–certified vessels for excursions into the Gulf to reel in fish of all sizes. Not only does Hubbard's Marina offer fishing trips, but they also allow opportunities for people to visit and observe Florida wildlife in their natural habitat. Animals such as dolphins, pelicans, manatees, and bald eagles can bee seen from the boat. After cruises, visitors can go shopping along the picturesque boardwalk and enjoy the local culture and history in the quaint fishing village.
They also captain sunset cruises, dolphin-watching cruises, kayak tours, rent kayaks and paddle boards, and even take to the streets during segway tours.
