About Smelly Onion Sailing
Whether you're relaxing on a sunset cruise or learning how to pilot a sailboat, you're in good hands with the Smelly Onion Sailing crew. The two founders have a lifetime of sailing experience, including traveling the world and racing for 15 years on the Great Lakes. The last bit of experience is particularly helpful on Lake Michigan with its large size and frequently shifting winds and water conditions.
The cheekily named company operates out of Chicago's Burnham Harbor on the Museum Campus, where its United States Coast Guard–certified captains whisk passengers away on scenic cruises that showcase the skyline, Navy Pier fireworks, and lighthouses that date back to the 1800s. Captains also pass on their knowledge to beginner sailors during Basic Sailing 101 classes and the more advanced Crew School.
