Apart from the ocean’s depths, the subatomic realm, and Geraldo Rivera’s moustache, space is the final frontier. Take a walk through the unknown with this Groupon to Yuri’s Night World Space Party benefiting CAJA 4 Kids at the U.S. Space & Rocket Center’s Davidson Center for Space Exploration on Saturday, April 7, from 6 p.m. to 1 a.m. Choose between the following options:
- $10 for one ticket (a $20 value)
- For $20, you get for two tickets (a $40 value)<p>
A celebration of space exploration’s past, present, and future, Yuri’s Night commemorates two special days in outer-space-aviation history: April 12, 1961, the day Yuri Gagarin manned the first space flight, and April 12, 1981, the inaugural launch of NASA’s space shuttle. Guests celebrate celestial accomplishments as they mingle on the dance floor, vie for costume-dance contest prizes, and watch live performers. Partiers can also learn from the U.S. Space & Rocket Center’s many exhibits, including suspended spacecraft and rocket displays, so they can go home and launch their little brothers into orbit.
Founded in 1987 by Judge Hartwell Lutz, Court Appointed Juvenile Advocates (CAJA) 4 Kids strives to provide care for Madison County youths who are victims of abuse or neglect. CAJA volunteers receive training in child-protection laws, court procedures, and the child-welfare system before conducting investigations of reported cases. Though not legal representation, CAJA members are appointed by judges and appear in court to represent the best interest of each child. Through the help of donor support and 55–65 local volunteers, CAJA assisted 20% of Madison County’s children in 2011, though it is continually striving to increase its reach.
