During classes, participants first smash glass to create sparkling fragments. The glass is then repurposed into an original piece of art, such as a plate or bowl, which students can return to pick up after it is fired in the kiln. Attendees are welcome to bring beverages. Classes begin at 10 a.m. and usually run until 1 p.m. in Studio 512.
An artist who has worked across a variety of three-dimensional mediums since 1964, Joe Drury found his niche in giving new life to old glass. At DruryDesignArt, he shares the secrets of his up-cycled works, educating curious pupils in the art of transformation—literally. Using tired or outdated glass pieces, Drury fires, molds, and manipulates the hot, malleable glass, fusing on new pieces and reinventing the old form. Suited for students ages 8 and up, classes are open to all stripes, and ideal for family bonding, couples night out, or a therapeutic art date with man's best friend: snacks.
