About Fort Lauderdale Greek Festival
One weekend every spring, members of the local Greek American community congregate with their neighbors around the Byzantine architecture of St. Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church. This four-day event, the Fort Lauderdale Greek Festival, celebrates Greek culture and customs, from the world-famous food to the spirited folk music and dancing. While line-dancing Zorba-style around the booths hawking handicrafts, visitors can pause to sample traditional dishes such as gyros, souvlaki, and homemade pastries, all washed down with Greek beer, wine, or ouzo. They'll also not want to miss the annual performances of the church's Palazakia and Kamaria dance troupes, whose ranks are filled with talented dancers dressed in traditional costume.
