Arsenic and Old Lace
“Insanity runs in my family. It practically gallops.”
Mortimer Brewster isn't exaggerating. His brother Teddy thinks he’s President Roosevelt, and his other brother Jonathon is a violent criminal on the lam. As he soon discovers, the dear, sweet aunts who raised him, Abby and Martha, just so happen to have a dozen dead bodies in their basement too. But the two old ladies would consider their crimes a charity project: helping lonely old men meet their maker with a healthy dose of arsenic. In this fast-paced, black-as-night comedy, made famous by a 1944 film adaptation starring Cary Grant, the conniving but relatively innocent Mortimer Brewster must decide if he should cover for them, turn them in, or blame the body-count on a particularly nasty hangover from elderberry wine. This production crackles under the directorial hand of actress, producer, and comedian Mindy Pickel, a former Chicago performer who now produces and promotes the best of LA comedy under her Pickel Comedy Productions banner.
